Founded in Bellingham, Washington, by Art Nordtvedt in October 1957, Uniflite (United Boat Builders) quickly grew from its humble beginnings to a renowned boat manufacturer. Initially crafting small fiberglass runabouts, Uniflite's portfolio expanded to include a wide array of recreational powerboats, commercial fishing boats, sailboats, and notable military craft, including the robust river patrol craft for the US Navy during the Vietnam War.
Uniflite set itself apart by being the only pleasure boat builder to use fire-retardant resins, emphasizing safety without compromising on performance. From the sleek 17' outboard to the robust 34' cruiser, each Uniflite vessel was designed for durability, comfort, and superior maritime capabilities.
After becoming a public company in 1962, Uniflite's growth accelerated, culminating in significant contracts, including the iconic Patrol Boat, River (PBR) used in Vietnam. With twin Detroit 6V53 diesel engines and water jet propulsion, these boats marked a milestone in military maritime engineering.
Despite a devastating fire in 1980 and its subsequent acquisition by Chris-Craft Boats in 1984, the Uniflite legacy endured, with continued production under the Chris-Craft brand until 1989. Today, Uniflite's enduring spirit lives on, influencing boat design and inspiring new generations of boat enthusiasts and builders.
